Day 1

l.Mburo walking safari

A walking safari in Lake Mburo National Park offers a rare and intimate way to experience Uganda’s wildlife on foot, guided by an armed ranger. Moving quietly through open savannah, acacia woodland and along lake shores, you are fully immersed in nature, able to observe animal tracks, plants and birdlife up close. Lake Mburo is one of the few parks in Uganda where walking safaris are allowed, making it a truly special experience.

During the walk, you are likely to encounter zebras, impalas, elands, topis, buffaloes and warthogs, often at close but safe distances. Giraffes roam gracefully across the plains, and with luck you may spot hippos near the water and hear the calls of birds such as fish eagles and kingfishers. The absence of large predators like lions during most walking routes makes the experience both safe and rewarding.

For those seeking alternative ways to explore the park, horseback safaris offer a unique perspective, allowing you to ride among wildlife without the noise of vehicles—animals are often more relaxed around horses. Cycling safaris are also available, providing an active and adventurous way to explore the park’s scenic landscapes and encounter wildlife along designated routes. Together, these experiences make Lake Mburo a standout destination for close-to-nature safaris and unforgettable encounters.

Day 2 & 3

Gorilla Tracking

Gorilla tracking in Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is one of the most powerful and unforgettable wildlife experiences in Africa. The trek begins early in the morning with a briefing from expert guides and rangers before you set off into the forest in small groups, following trails and listening for signs of a habituated gorilla family. Trekking time can range from a short walk to several hours, depending on the gorillas’ movements, making the experience both adventurous and rewarding.

When you finally encounter the gorillas, you are allowed up to one magical hour in their presence. During this time, you may see silverbacks leading their families, mothers nurturing young ones, juveniles playing, feeding or climbing trees, and gorillas peacefully foraging in the vegetation. Observing their close social bonds and human-like behavior in their natural habitat is deeply moving and often described as life-changing.

The environment of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest is as extraordinary as its wildlife. This ancient rainforest is dense, mist-covered and alive with sound, featuring towering trees, thick undergrowth, vines and mosses that create a truly “impenetrable” landscape. It is one of Africa’s most biodiverse forests, home to hundreds of bird species, butterflies, primates and unique plant life. The cool, misty atmosphere and steep terrain add to the sense of adventure, making gorilla tracking in Bwindi not just a wildlife encounter, but a full immersion into one of the most pristine and enchanting ecosystems on the continent.

Kibale National Park offers the perfect blend of wildlife encounters and peaceful relaxation. Renowned as the primate capital of Africa, Kibale is home to one of the highest concentrations of chimpanzees, making it one of the best places in the world for chimp trekking. The experience begins with a guided walk through lush tropical rainforest, where you track chimpanzee families by listening to their calls and following signs of their movement. Once found, you’ll observe chimps interacting in their natural environment—feeding, grooming, playing and moving energetgetically through the forest canopy—an exciting and memorable wildlife encounter.

After the thrill of chimp trekking, the journey slows down in the scenic Crater Lakes region near Fort Portal. Nestled among rolling hills and tea plantations, the crater lakes offer a serene escape with breathtaking views, fresh air and tranquil surroundings. Here, you can enjoy gentle nature walks, cultural village visits, swimming in selected lakes, or simply relax and take in the beauty of the landscape. This combination of adventure in Kibale’s rainforest and relaxation at the crater lakes creates a well-balanced and deeply rewarding experience in western Uganda.

Day 4 & 5

Murchison Falls National Park, Uganda’s largest and most diverse protected area, offers a spectacular combination of dramatic landscapes and abundant wildlife, often paired with a visit to the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary for a complete Big Five experience. The journey typically begins at Ziwa, where you enjoy a guided on-foot rhino tracking experience, walking safely through open bush to observe the endangered white rhinos at close range—an inspiring conservation success story.

Continuing to Murchison Falls National Park, you are greeted by sweeping savannahs, the winding Nile River and rich wildlife habitats. The highlight is the powerful Murchison Falls, where the entire Nile is forced through a narrow 7-meter gorge before plunging thunderously into the river below. Viewing the falls from the top offers breathtaking sights, roaring sounds and mist-filled air, while a boat cruise on the Nile provides a calmer perspective, bringing you close to hippos, crocodiles, elephants and a variety of birdlife along the riverbanks.

Game drives across the park’s northern plains reveal impressive wildlife sightings, including lions, often seen resting under acacia trees or stalking prey in the open grasslands. You may also encounter elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, antelopes and, with luck, leopards. The combination of the dramatic falls, rich river life and classic savannah wildlife makes a trip to Murchison Falls National Park and Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary one of Uganda’s most iconic and rewarding safari experiences.
